The Swiss National Museum, opened in 1898, combines different architectural styles and reflects the history of Switzerland. To create space for new functions, Christ & Gantenbein designed an extension that combines the historic U-shaped building with a modern structure. The extension offers new exhibition rooms, a study center with a library, an auditorium and catering facilities. Old and new are linked by design references such as the origami-like roof.
The library is furnished with Swiss furniture and the tables are illuminated with TYPE 60 by Baltensweiler.
